Dr. Stephanie Shipwash - Licensed Acupuncturist (MAOM, DACM)
I grew up right here in Clayton. After graduating from Clayton High School, I attended Appalachian State University and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Shortly after, I joined the United States Air Force. While serving, I volunteered to become a National Organization for Victim Advocacy (NOVA) certified victim advocate for survivors of interpersonal violence, specifically for those who served in the military, but also for those in the local community. While I served in the military, I began my Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Missouri, and graduated shortly after finishing my enlistment. I then taught Criminal Justice at Tusculum University in East Tennessee. It was there that I was introduced to Chinese Medicine via the local Veterans Affairs Medical Center. I learned that Chinese Medicine treats the person and gets to the root of the problem. Every person is treated individually, vs. a one-size-fits-all approach. I also learned that through Chinese Medicine, people can heal from their trauma because it can manifest in the body physically (knee pain, indigestion, etc.). I fell in love with this medicine and decided to attend Chinese Medical School. After four years of intensive schooling, I graduated with my Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine degrees. This medicine is truly special, and I look forward to sharing that with as many people as possible.
Initial Appointment
75-90 minutes
This appointment will be your first appointment. You will be asked questions about your main complaint, as well as what’s known as “the ten thousand questions” to find out more of what’s going on in your body. After the intake, the treatment will begin and consist of acupuncture, treatment modalities if they are appropriate (Gua Sha, cupping, moxa, Tui Na, etc.), herbal medicine and/or supplement recommendations, and lifestyle suggestions (including possible food therapy suggestions).
Follow-up Appointment
45-60 minutes
This is for patients who have already been seen and had their initial appointment.
No Needle Appointment
20-30 minutes
This treatment consists of only treatment modalities (Gua Sha, cupping, moxa, Tui Na, acupressure, etc.). This is a great option for those who do not want needles, or who are a little short on time.
NADA Protocol
20-30 minutes
The NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) Protocol consists of five needles placed gently in the ear. They are ideal for those who struggle with relaxation, sleep, pain, behavioral health challenges, digestion issues, and so much more. It can also aid in addiction recovery, and can help reduce trauma experienced after natural disasters. Patients receiving these treatments sit comfortably in a chair and only have needles placed in one or both ears.
Graceful Aging Treatments
MicroNeedling
20-50 minutes
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive technique that uses thin needles, typically 12 micro tips, to create microchannels in the skin. The “wounds” created help stimulate the skin’s own healing process by producing more collagen and elastin to the areas treated. Cellular turnover is also enhanced and the end result is firm, smoother skin, more even skin tone, and the reduction of scars, pore size, wrinkles, and stretch marks. In addition to the shifts in appearance, the open channels allow for an increase of up to 2000% of products placed on the skin. Microneedling is only performed once a month (Nanoneedling or AcuGlow are great for in between those 4 weeks).
AcuGlow
20-50 minutes
AcuGlow treatments are great options as stand alone, or combined with Microneedling or Nanoneedling. The treatments are performed using Gua Sha and cups that are specific for the face. These treatments move lymph and stagnation, tone and lift the face, enhance the health of the skin, and minimize signs of aging. When performed regularly, they release toxins from the skin, hydrate the skin, reduce enlarged pores, increase oxygen-rich blood flow (which gives that glow), strengthen the cells responsible for collagen production, release muscle tension, increase product absorption, reduces puffiness, minimizes wrinkles and fine lines, and regulates oil production.
NanoNeedling
20-50 minutes
Like Microneedling, but uses silicone rather than needles. These microscopic hair-like cones separate the cells within the epidermis (top layer of the skin) to allow active products to be pushed into the skin. These benefits include pigmentation reduction, increased cell turnover, skin rejuvenation, and an immediate glow with no downtime. It is also great for fine line and wrinkles, swelling, and sagging skin. This treatment can be done weekly to exfoliate the skin, and is also great for those with sensitive skin, are 75 years of age or above, and in between Microneedling sessions.
Light Therapy
20-30 minutes
LED light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes different wavelengths of light to help treat various skin issues such as can, fine lines, and wounds. LED (light-emitting diode) is a lower energy form compares to the sun and laser treatments. In short, LED is absorbed by the molecules in the skin, which in turn alters the biology nearby cells. Different LED wavelengths that show up as color have different benefits. The TOMA LED Rainbow Light (the LED that I use) can be used for facial services as well as on the body for inflammation and pain. This can be a stand-alone treatment or an add-on treatment to Acupuncture treatment.
